Over the past few years I’ve been drawn to books that focus on men who do truly horrible things but with intense conviction in their choices. In their hubris or madness they believe that they uphold principles they usually tend to undermine (think: Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad). Perhaps they even do some good sometimes ? Perhaps the world has wronged them ? Perhaps you are just as depraved if you seek to justify ? (think Ten Pillars of Wisdom, T.E Lawrence, Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky).
In search of a new tale of hubris and descent into insanity. I prefer literary fiction, classics, works with writing that transcends. Thank you!
