Maybe this is oddly specific. But I have just described the kind of person I am. I usually read thrillers and mystery novels and have been wanting to expand my horizon and try other genres.

One of my fav book is “I’m thinking of ending things” I don’t want to spoil anything but those have read it would probably guess why.

I’m more drawn to sad books, I find them more relatable. Not sure if it’s healthy but I like what I like.

I’m not sure what kind of books I would enjoy but if there’s anything that might be interesting for me I would love to check it out

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but How to keep house while drowning helped me realize how hard I try to keep up with societal expectations, fail, then get mad/disappointed at everything in my life.

Don’t know if this is exactly what you’re looking for but Midnight Library might scratch that itch

I would recommend the book We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler because it is about an unusual situation, and both sad and thought provoking.

As much as I love reading, I’m often disappointed by books. All of the 4 and 5 stars reviews some books get usually leaves me shaking my head in disappointment after I’ve finished reading.

YMMV, but here are some that I’ve really enjoyed over the past few years, that sound like they may fit your criteria/personality.

Neverwhere, Speak, The Graveyard Book, Year of Wonders, Secret Life of Bees, Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, Boy’s Life, Gone South, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Eleanor & Park, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, 14 & The Fold,
The Ocean at the End of the Lane, A Man Called Ove, The Life We bury, Best Boy, All the Winters After, The Wolf Road, The Hike, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, The Wrong Unit, I Am Still Alive, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, These Silent Woods
