I'm in a book club, and it's my turn to pick the book. So far, every book we've read has been a crime/thriller, because that's what the book club founders like to read. I do not care for thrillers. Please give me suggestions for books that are not thrillers that thriller lovers would enjoy!
The only thing the group has generally agreed on is that they don't want to read classics.

Remarkably Bright Creatures, Anxious People, anything recent by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Daisy Jones and the Six, Carrie Soto is Back, Malibu Rising, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo).
These all have some mystery about them, but they aren’t thrillers:
We Ride Upon Sticks (This is my strongest rec for the season – so funny and the end would make for great discussion.)
The Round House
The Spellman Files
Sipsworth
Mad Honey
The Painter (by Peter Heller)
Also, it may help us to know more about the demographics of your group/what thrillers they liked and didn’t like. Or other books you’ve really enjoyed that you think they’d like if you gave them a chance.
Klara and the Sun by Ishiguro
The Scent Keeper by Bauermeister
Jitterbug Perfume – by Tom Robbins,
Has a bit of everything in it (if that statement seems unlikely, read anything by Tom & I think you’ll agree).
I’m yet to meet anybody who’s met this book and not loved it.
Under the Skin by Michael Faber.
There’s a general sense of “wtf is going on?” that would hook thriller lovers but it’s much stranger and a different genre than a thriller. The less people know about it going in, the better. Like don’t even look up the movie cause the summary spoils something.
Trigger warning for >!Graphic SA scene. It’s very telegraphed that something bad is gonna happen and could be skimmed through for anyone who is sensitive to that. And it has a good reason for being there imho!<
What about a little comedy horror to start off the fall season with?
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
Or Medium Dead by Christopher Dolley
Or Dads vs Zombies by Benjamin Wallace
These are fast paced, well written and full of action as well as being very funny.
I feel like ‘Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows’ by Balli Kaur Jaswal would be perfect.
The will of the many – fantasy with exciting plot, mystery and action.
