Hey guys! Figured I’d make a post because I’m unsure of what to read next. I’m trying to hit 20 books this year.

I’m trying to make out some commonalities through what I’ve read, but the problem is that I’ve actually enjoyed them all! I’d say Historical Fiction, and stories about people who are broken, have problems with society, or dissatisfied in some way or another. There’s also a bit of Black Mirror esque scifi in there. I’m open to Fantasy and have started the Mazalan serious but I wasn’t able to get into it right away.

Please drop a comment if you’ve read any of these and can suggest something similar.

Here’s what I’ve read so far, in order of when I read them throughout the year.

    1. No Longer Human, Ozamu Dazai

    2. The Stranger, Albert Camus

    3. A Hero Born, Jin Yong

    4. Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy

    5. Exhalation, Ted Chiang

    6. The Test, Sylvain Neuvel

    7. Super Sad True Love Story, Gary Shteyngart

    8. Ham on Rye, Charles Bukowski

    9. Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami

    10. The Gambler, Fyodor Dostoevsky

    11. Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea, Barbara Demuck

    1. If you like historical fiction about societal issues, I’d highly recommend Pachinko by Min Jin Lee!

Also, if you enjoyed Norwegian Wood, other Murakami books are also good— particularly his short story collections, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, and 1Q84.
