I have learned a lot from non-fiction books but whenever I try to find a recommendation here, mostly they are fiction books.(I guess that's because more people read fiction books)

For example I was searching for a book on regret and most users recommended the book "The Midnight Library", I saw many good reviews on Goodreads as well and bought the book. It was my first and last fiction book. It was the worst book I ever read. It almost gave me depression.

I think fiction books are good for entertainment but not for learning anything. Not sure why most people recommend fiction books even when someone asks for books on regret, depression or other such issues.

Edit: I got the point that fiction books can also address issues like regret but if someone is going through some mental health issues, recommending a fiction book (which was actually not written to deal with mental health issues) can actually have opposite effects. I have experienced that myself so maybe I just wanted to vent but I believe books have the potential to change lives (if one reads the right book at the right time) so this community can play a big role in someone's life so please be careful what you are suggesting especially for mental health issues.
