I wanna read something light and fun with magical powers, that’s also for adults, but whenever i look at the fantasy section of the bookstore the covers are ridiculously immature looking with huge large text and or silly looking characters. I know I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. I can’t help it. I want to grow my personal book collection and I’m really picky about the art. I think if the book is good, the binding and cover should also represent it well. As both are pieces of art and should feel unified? I know its stupid. But yeah any recommendations?

I don’t wanna read any of the ones that have already been turned into big movies and I’ve already read the Eragon series as a kid.

The Priory of the Orange Tree and its prequel A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon might fit what you’re looking for. They have gorgeous covers

    2. If you like the kate Daniels series, you might like the alpha and Omega series or the Mercy Thompson series. I think the covers are quite a bit tamer. Another idea in this vein is the harry Dresden series.

For books with dragons, check out the summer dragon, dragon riders of pern which is more science fiction, and you might see a shadow of the Gods is your thing, but I couldn’t get into that one.

    3. His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novak is excellent and the art is great. However, there is no magic. Only dragons.

Tales of Earthsea is great and I agree with Sci fi and fantasy books having awful gaudy immature covers… big turn off
