This might be a tough one as I’m chasing something which is tough to describe.
I read a novel called Flood Summer which I loved and I’m trying to find something with a similar vibe where the plot sort of matters less than the feeling you get from the book. The descriptions should make you feel like you are exactly where the book is set, the characters should feel like real people living real lives and that should be the focus of the book and as a result leave it difficult to put in a genre. So it can have romance or scary situations or a crime or a mystery but not specifically a romance, horror, crime or mystery book. And certainly not sci-fi or fantasy.

If the book were a movie it would be an independent drama film. Character driven, but setting and cinematography equally important.

If anybody has read a novel like this then I’d love to hear your suggestions.
