Looking for a sci-fi book or series with a creative take on lot of different planets and alien cultures

I can’t say I’ve read much sci-fi at all, but I’d like something where you’re introduced to a lot of different alien cultures and planets. It doesn’t necessarily need to be action packed. I just want something that feels inspired and creative.
