It doesn't have to be an entire town. Just a building even. It doesn't have to be for supernatural reasons either. I haven't been able to find many books with this sort of plot and I really enjoy it.
I loved Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt and American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett. I also read Suicide Town by Boris Bacic, but I kinda hated it. So even though his other books seem to have a similar theme I can't bring myself to read them, unless someone here can tell me they're better.
Thanks for any suggestions given!

the tommyknockers! stephen king has said this is his worst book but if you are okay with skimming through a section or two where he starts to ramble it really is exactly what you’re looking for.
eta: i who have never known men is also sort of along these lines. it’s an odd one but very enjoyable and thought provoking.
Try the silo series by Hugh howley. Love these!

You need to watch Buñuel’s film *The Exterminating Angel*.
Book: J.G. Ballard, *Concrete Island*.
Forever by Pete Hamill
Okay I really enjoyed The Parliament by Aimee Pokwatka – people are trapped in the library by owls – it was not what I expected at all and there is a book within a book that I didn’t think exactly worked, BUT I loved the characters and the premise was both terrifying and fun.
Something very different in tone – Subdivision by J Robert Lennon – a woman is trapped in a town with vague memories of her past and she tries to start a new life but there are weird and ominous things that thwart her attempts.
Wayward Pines trilogy (think it’s a TV show too?)
The Watchers by AM Shine
Bad Parts by Brandon McNulty
This isn’t completely the same but 5 Survive by Holly Jackson was cool, they characters were stuck in a van for most of the book and it’s a mystery
*The Thief of Always* by Clive Barker
