Just read Stoner and had a blast with the novel. Truly an odyssey for an ordinary man, such a standard life brought to life with wonderful writing and colorful characterization. I think my biggest takeaway from the novel is to keep on persevering and keep true to yourself in the face of any form of adversity. As well as embracing adversity as fuel for improvement. Im not sure if that is a particularly unique take but thats what I got from it. Instead of following his family's footsteps and going into farming and agriculture, he found passion through literature, yet his love for it stemmed from a challenging/difficult experience from his first professor who kind of went in on Stoner's response, leaving him a bit speechless.
