I’m looking for dystopian book recommendations, even though the genre usually turns me off (although I did enjoy 1984).
I tend to associate dystopian with exaggerated, cyberpunk-like settings and sci-fi, which I don’t enjoy. I am fully aware and acknowledge that my preconceptions are potentially ignorant, and at best likely reflect a very narrow slice of what the genre can encompass. But that’s exactly why I’m here—hoping to challenge them.
To give an idea of what I like, I’m into low/mid fantasy, fiction, and historical fiction (love Joe Abercrombie and Ken Follett). I’m drawn to darker, more ‘realistic’ stories, but I also appreciate fiction that’s a bit more abstract or unconventional. That said, I’m certainly open to other styles!
Oh, and I do audiobooks, so good narrators are a massive bonus.
