Most historical novels are written from the perspective of kings, nobles, harem women, travelling merchants, plucky thieves, assassins and bandits, or resilient peasants. It's been done countless times.

But do you know of any written from the perspectives of angels, demons or djinn, or from members of some crazy cult, or from tongueless eunuchs, village idiots, bathhouse serving-wenches, or from ancient trees or from insects clinging to the walls if royal palaces?

I'm looking for fiction from an unexpected or unusual viewpoint?

Lisa See’s Peony in Love is written from the perspective of a girl who dies and becomes a hungry ghost.

Fair warning, I DNF because my God it was boring. Literally two thirds of the book is a commentary on an opera.
