As a teenager I loved anything with angsty romance. I read like a book a day, but the most notable ones were: the maze runner series, we all looked up, all the bright places, we are the ants, the tragedy paper, and the eye of minds series. Along with every dystopian book you can image following the hype for the hunger games and divergent.

Now I’m 21 and I’m trying to find my love for reading again, but I am significantly pickier. I disliked Caraval and once upon a broken heart because the plot just fell flat for me, the author sucks at following through, but I did enjoy the magic aspect. I HATED the Bell Jar because it was boring and just randomly racist. I didn’t even finish it. I enjoyed the Cruel Prince series because it was fantasy politics with just a side of romance, plus I love cool women. I enjoyed the House of Salt and Sorrow because of the insanity plot, and I liked that you never really knew what was real. The ending wasn’t the best though. What would you recommend? I think I lean towards older YA stuff with cool girls and fantasy/sci fi aspects.

    1. Gideon the Ninth and maybe Red Rising (if you haven’t already read it in your dystopian book list yet)

Each of these have something in common with the kinds of books you enjoyed:

      Hide by Kiersten White

      The Wall by John Lancaster

      Syndrome E by Frank Thilliez

    3. Check out the Mara Dyer series. First book is {{ The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkins }}.

Also try {{ Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler }}.
