I've read 3 King novels so far: Misery (loved), Fairy Tale (my favorite) and Mr. Mercedes (good).
I don't like paranormal stories, anything involving animal abuse/cruelty or really anything considered "super" horror. I'm a baby and can't even watch scary movies.
I am okay with any length as long as it doesn't feel like I'm reading a long book (iykyk).
Please help!

11/22/63 is by far my favorite King book. It’s not horror, historical fiction with a bit of thriller. There’s even some romance.
I don’t like horror either so I was never interested in King, but I really enjoyed the Dark Tower series
Christine, Carrie, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
Check out Eyes of the Dragon, it’s a fantastic one that isn’t too long. It also has ties to other books you may read later.
Dolores Claiborne
Read Finders Keepers and End of Watch. Trilogy
That starts with Mr. Mercedes!

The long walk.
Night shift – this is short stories but there was a story about rats that I still think about whenever I’m in a basement. . Hearts in atlantis. Firestarter.
Please check out his short stories. I love Stephen King and it’s a great bibliography if you like his style. He’s also got an autobiographical book called on writing where he talks about his life and how his drug addiction impacted his writing.
The Long Walk, a gruelling dystopian nightmare. One of his earlier, lesser known works.
Needful Things
You might find Billy Summers engaging because it focuses on suspense and crime rather than paranormal elements. It should keep you hooked without feeling overly long. If you liked Mr. Mercedes, you’ll likely appreciate this one as well!
Anyone else like Firestarter?.
