TW: >! main character SA’d !<
Recently got Spotify premium and have the ability to listen to audiobooks. I chose Jaded
for its synopsis- main character is daughter of immigrants, has well-paying job, stable long term relationship – all the while not fitting in completely in both worlds.
This novel was brilliant. Rosa Escoda did an awesome job reading this and does well at bringing the characters to life which she did by using different tones of voice – perhaps a little too well.
Even though it was just a novel I felt like the story could be anyone’s story. I think that’s why I’ve had such a hard time trying to reflect on this book. The author Ela Lee made me >! so upset for her main character… she also made me thankful for the few people who believed her, mad that the ones who mattered the most to her did not, frustrated that her employer did the exact same thing that many other employers do in these situations and buy the victims’ silence. !<
Just… fuck. Man . It was so good – but I was so sad.
Has anyone else read this book? What did you think of it?
