suggest me a book that is scary to the reader, but not to the characters in the book

i’m looking for a book where something is obviously very wrong or “off”, but nobody in the book seems to notice or care that fuckery is afoot.

i want to be screaming while reading it and going like ”UMMMM……HELLOOOO????” while everyone is just acting like it’s another tuesday.
