I just finished, back to back, two delightful books: Masquerades of Spring and Rocky Start. They both were the perfect mix (for me) of wonderfully quirkily lovable characters, fast-paced and slightly absurd plot, and really wonderful writing. With a tone that assured me of a happy ending, even if it gets tense in the middle. I laughed out loud multiple times in each book.
And I realized that this combination makes my favorite flavour of book and I want more of this! So, what's the most recent book that matched that description, please?

East of Eden by Steinbeck. I read it for the first
time last year and have already re-read it.
Remarkably Bright Creatures – by Shelby van Pelt
Sunday Philosophy Club- by Alexander McCall Smith
The most entertaining book I’ve read recently is John Scalzi’s **Starter Villain**. It’s a spoof of the early James Bond movies. A substitute teacher inherits his estranged uncle’s villainy which comes complete with a secret volcanic lair.
It’s non fiction, but I’m reading Unruly by David Mitchell right now and it’s the definition of the word delightful!
