i’ve found that most ‘booktok’ recommendations have not gotten me far for what i’m looking for so im turning to reddit (who never lets me down)
my absolute favourite author is leigh bardugo, i LOVED the grishaverse series (all 7 books and spinoffs etc) and i recently read the familiar by her which i also LOVED even though it was different.
i’ve read and enjoyed most popular ya series like hunger games, harry potter, and percy jackson which i really enjoyed.
recently read acotar book 1 and 2 which i enjoyed mostly, but some aspects of it really made me cringe and i couldn’t get past it (mating, fairy’s etc just a litttllleeee too much for me)
i think the genre i might be looking for is ya fantasy/dystopian with like a story + romance? like in six of crows, it was mostly storyline but there was romance in it occasionally etc and i think that’s what i like about leigh bardugo. i also like a powerful/interesting/likeable and usually but not always female main character (like inej, alina, luzia, zoya, katniss etc) so that is important. and honestly writing this i think i’ve just found my main link to my favourite books so maybe that is the most important lmao! sort of lighter themes (not too depressing) and likeable main characters that actually interest me ? and good romance? and good story? maybe im asking for too much LMAO. but i’d appreciate some help!! thank you!

    1. * Sabriel – a girl whose father lays to rest the resurrected dead goes in search of him.

      * Red Rising – similarly a strong group of underdogs taking on power, but also understanding its complexities.

      * Cinder – Maybe a little YA, but a mech-fantasy retelling of Cinderella.

      * The Bear and the Nightingale- also based in Slavic tradition, a girl defies the increasingly tyranny of her stepmother and the church, and gets closer to the old ways.
