Okay so I'm kinda looking for the same thing just in two different time periods.
For Science Fiction I am looking for colonizing new planets, living on a space station, alien contact/kidnapping.
For Western Fiction what I'm really looking for is stories of settlers headed west. Think the Oregon Trail game. It even be stories of the indigenous tribes of the area.
What I don't want: Solely Romance with these themes, Paranormal, or mostly Fantasy.
Any ideas?

i highly recommend michael crichton’s Sphere, where they encounter an alien artifact and are living in an underwater station to investigate it
You can get a bit of both in these 2 series:
W.Michael Gear’s “Donovan” series
Allen M. Steele’s, “Coyote” series
Both are about the trials and tribulations of colonizing an alien world. Both offworld cultures end up with a bit of western / cowboy / settler vibe. Mostly because it’s a long time between starship supply visits.
If you’d like a mix of both, check out the Dark Tower. Part 1 is a little slow, so maybe skip to part 2 if doesn’t hook you. Parts 3 and 5 have lots of sci-fi elements.
