Hello, I recently started reading and watching a lot about racial segregation and racism. This topic is very dear and important to me, and even though I thought I knew history, these publications have shown me I still have a lot to learn. I read Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyar and I cried reading The Freedom Writers Diary (there's also a film adaptation that I'm planning to watch later). Right now, I'm reading The Color Purple by Alice Walker. I'm not looking for strictly essays and history books, I need some fiction and an engaging storyline to stay hooked. Have a great day!

The Color of Law
To kill a mockingbird popped in my head and also Uncle Toms Cabin.
Two authors of relevant historical fiction – Colson Whitehead and Jesmyn Ward. I’ve nearly all of their works and will recommend one each:
{{The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead}}
{{Let Us Descend by Jesmyn Ward}}
You might consider “Keepers of the House” by Shirley Ann Grau for fiction. Beautifully narrated by the late, great Anna Fields if you’re into audiobooks.
*Heart of Darkness* by Joseph Conrad.
*Invisible Man* by Ralph Ellison.
*Beloved* by Toni Morrison.
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Loving Day by Mat Johnson
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Obasan by Joy Kogawa
Freedom Road by Howard Fast about reconstruction
John Henry A Steel Drivin’ Man
Master Slave Husband Wife
Havent read it yet but its on my physical shelf, Stamped from the Beginning. It appears to be about how integrated racial thought is in the foundation of the USA and how that integration has affected culture, development, policy, and the like
Dear Martin by Nic Stone
How to be Anti-Racist by Idram X
