Hello all,
I am trying to get into more female classics after reading a host of classic novels written by men. Prior to that I had read a whole lot of doorstop bricks of Fantasy novels so I am looking for something more around the sub 300 page mark. After reading Stoner, Farewell to arms, Slaughter house 5, and some of Dosteoyvsky's shorter works, I am feeling the shorter novel rather than a large scale epic spanning 600+ pages.
So I am looking for a shorter classic novel written by a woman. I personally don't find much connection to Jane Austen's work such as pride and prejudice, and just not as intrigued with the overall setting/historical element of that time period. I love Ursula K leguin and Banana Yoshimoto.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (but is a short story, not a novel)
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
My Antonia by Willa Cather
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
