Hi everyone!
As the title says – I wanna read more books about marine biology and oceans, but I’m also open to other interesting areas of nature and what goes on there – forests, mountains, deserts, if you got anything you’d recommend, I am here for it!
Other criteria:
– can be English or German, other original languages are fine if there’s a good English translation
– I‘m a biologist (but from a very different sub-field), so I don’t mind if it gets very technical/scientific, but it’s not a must
– on that note, it should be accurate/not be full of wild unfounded speculation presented as fact (I got some standards 😭😂)
– also open to more literary/poetic explorations of nature as long as it’s still non-fiction
– I want a focus on nature (plants, mushrooms, animals, natural phenomena, microbes, geology etc), not on humans/culture. It can of course still be a part of it, but I don’t want it as the main focus
– can focus on/include extinct species/prehistoric events (both recently extinct and things like dinosaurs/mammoths/evolution as a central topic)
– I want something that’s interesting, not something that’s anxiety inducing to me, so no specific focus on „oh look this poor animal is suffering and will get eaten“ emotion-driven narrative or climate change as the main topic (I am okay with that one in moderation, but I don’t want every chapter to be „but it’ll all be gone soon, sucks“)
Thank you!
