I am long term subbing for an 8th grade special ed reading class. I’m planning to do a daily read aloud, about 10 minutes at the start of each class period. I haven’t worked with this demographic of students before, so I’d love some recommendations – these kids are all in 8th grade, but are at a 5th or 6th grade reading level. They will not have a book in front of them, just listening to me read aloud. I’m hoping for something engaging that will stretch their comprehension skills, but won’t lose them. Ideas?
