I'm currently reading "Cocaine" by Pascal Engman, and Vanessa Frank really won my heart. What other books should I definitely read?
I love any crime book that has a female protagonist, it doesn't have to be exclusively a detective. It's also interesting when she turns out to be the antagonist or the killer.

check out sue grafton. there’s also jan burke, patricia cornwell, meg gardiner, alex kava, lisa gardner and carol o’connell.
**Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead** by Sara Gran. Claire DeWitt is a pretty interesting detective who has been a detective since her teens and, like her role model, French detection guru Jacques Silette, hasn’t been able to solve the greatest mystery of her own life.
**Bucket Nut** by Liza Cody. Eva Wylie doesn’t really solve crimes, things just tend to happen around her. She’s big, ugly, strong and not particulary bright, runs a one-woman security business and works as a show wrestler on the side.
**Dupe** by Liza Cody. Same author, different protagonist. Anna Lee, investigator, is a quiet observant listener, good at getting information by letting people talk. Very British.
**The Girl in 6E** by A.E. Torre. Deanna Madden lives in 6E, and follows simple rules to survive. Don’t leave the appartment. Ever. Don’t let anybody in. Have the appartment locked from the outside at night. And she has her reasons.
The Number One Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. Mma “Precious” Ramotswe sets up a detective agency in Botswana on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, making her the only female detective in the country. Narrated by Lisette Lecat.
Laura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan series is good.
You should really try Holly by Stephen King, but you’d probably need to read the Bill Hodges trilogy first. It’s good stuff!
