Years ago, I was prepping for hernia surgery. Knew I'd be down for a bit and was gathering reading material. One book that I started on (and I'm trying to find again) started off with a party that I vaguely recall as being steampunk in nature. The main character was a wizard. Can't recall his name. A golem was at the party trying to assassinate him. One of the phrases I remember was that he caught a faint flicker of spell light, and that allowed him time to defend himself.
Anyway, I also picked up Summer Knight by Jim Butcher. Started reading that one instead and forgot all about the other one. Anyway, I'd like to pick it up. Publishing date had to be prior to 2003.
Can anyone suggest me some titles that may be the book in question? Sorry that's not a lot to go on.
