Looking for an interesting read with strong characters that tackles the bond between a child or teen with another being/"alien"/monster, etc. Can be a kid's chapter book you've read to your kids, a book you enjoyed reading growing up, or a book targeted at adults. Bonus for deeper narrative and more developed characters.
I don't care so much about 80s or 90s nostalgia ("kids on bikes") so much as I do stories about relationships that highlight interesting themes.
*No limbs getting chopped off or gruesome dissections, please!
