I'm seeking a well-written romance novel, but I tend to dislike many of the popular bestsellers (such as A Court of Thorns and Roses, Twilight, and The Notebook). Though marketed for adults, their writing often feels more like YA fiction to me, with romance plots and female characters that are one-dimensional, static, and predictable.
I'm craving a deep, moving, and intricate romance. I also read a lot of fantasy and tend to gravitate towards the "older" fantasy novels that offer more complexity and depth. I love the romance in Paladin of Souls, Robin Hobb novels, Pachinko, A little life.
