Woops, I meant m/m. Not f/f, my mistake.
No books written after 2016 either 🙏
Alright I want a book with homoerotic themes but these themes aren’t meant to be an accurate depiction of homosexuality. Nothing like Heartstopper or that one book about fencing.
Some books that have fit this bill for me are:
- McGlue
- The God in Flight
- Mysterious Skin (this was a realistic depiction of homosexuality, but it didn’t feel tenderqueer or otherwise Tumblr-y).
- Sarah, by JT LeRoy
- The Winter Prince by Elizabeth Wein
And that’s more or less it. I do prefer darker themes, but it isn’t necessary. Note that homoerotic subtext is also well-welcomed.
Begging you not to recommend something everyone already knows about (Dorian Gray, Captive prince — which I did love, that book about the teens killing and eating people by an author I only vaguely remember as Micah, anything by Poppy Brite, As Meat loves Salt, etc.)
TIA.
