I've heard his name mentioned in numerous books before so I was intrigued as to why so many people think of him when writing their own stories so I bought some of his books and this is the first one I read so far.
It's just about a kid stuck in a hospital with bizarre characters and surrounded by nothing but snow and it is a fantastic read about people trying to make something out of nothing. The descriptions of the environments never give the impression that we are stuck in a a place we don't want to be and that there is always something to be had in the places you wonder. And each character has something new to offer and counter with each other, it reminded me a lot of Victor Hugo mixed in with a few G.K Chesterton characters. It might be a new favorite of mine and one of the few that I can consider to have the perfect ending, the writing itself is something of a marvel as well and I can't stop thinking of how amazing it all was.
If anyone else has read it, I'd love to know your thoughts.
