The Penric and Desdemona series by Bujold, about a man sharing his body with a friendly spirit demon. By virtue of possessing the demon, Penric ends up being a “fixer” for the in world church, and the various books tend to focus on his adventures working for the church. The individual books are quite short, but there are a lot of them, and if you are not familiar with Bujold, she has several great series. These take place in the same world as “the world of the five gods” series.
