Hi. I have 7 books left to complete my 2023 reading challenge. I sort of fell behind reading due to some personal issues and was not able to get back fast. I’ve tried getting back to reading but I can’t seem to finish one book. I specifically started reading Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow but I got stuck halfway through the book.

I will appreciate any suggestions. I’m okay with any genre. Thank you!

      My quickest reads lately were:

      – The Woman in Me – Britney Spears
      – The Next Time I Die – Jason Starr
      – Charm City Rocks – Matthew Norman
      – We Could Be Heroes – Mike Chen
      – Blind Spots – Thomas Mullen
      – The Invisible Library – Genevieve Cogman

    2. Do you accept novellas?

“The Beauty” by Aliya Whiteley is a genderfucky post-apocalyptic horror novella about a young man falling in love with a mushroom monster. I love how different people have vastly different reactions to it- some find it sweet, others find it vindicating, others think it’s the most fucked up thing ever.

“Achilles” by Elizabeth Cook is an elegant, moving account of Achilles’s life (and IMO, better than “Song of Achilles” for engaging with the source material)

“Queen of Teeth” by Hailey Piper is a fucked up little horror novel about a woman who wakes up with teeth in her junk.

“To Be Taught, If Fortunate” by Becky Chambers is a soothing, hopeful story about exploring space.

“Izanami’s Choice” by Adam Heine is a fun samurai vs. robots story, set in an alternate universe where Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine gave rise to AI.

“Servant Mage” by Kate Elliott is a fun subversion of the “rebellion in fantasy-land”, with class-consciousness and anti-colonialist messages.

    3. I know you say no preference for genre, but maybe it’s because you haven’t gotten hooked on a specific genre yet? The way I’ve always seen it is everybody has their preference in only ~1-3 reading genres so maybe you can see what interests you the most and then find recs from there?

    4. Ones I’ve read recently that really kept my attention:

      Shark Heart – Emily Habeck

The Only One Left – Riley Sager

      Monstrilio – Gerardo Sámano Córdova

The Saturday Night Ghost Club – Craig Davidson
