I studied English Literature at university, with a focus on Medieval and Early Modern English – think Chaucer, Marie de France, Clifford, Shakespeare and Marlowe. I did a few papers in Victorian Literature, which were fun and exposed me to the likes of the Brontes, Mary Shelley and Oscar Wilde. I've also read Austen a lot.
Recently I've been trying to read more modern classics and other classics I missed through school and my degree in general.
I tried and really enjoyed:
– The Secret History
– The Handmaid's Tale
– The Great Gatsby
– Katherine Mansfield Short Stories
– To Kill a Mockingbird
– Never Let Me Go
– 1984
– A Brave New World
– War of the Worlds
– I Capture the Castle
– Frankenstein
– Jane Eyre
– Pride and Prejudice
– Emma
– Mansfield Park
– A Town Like Alice
Things I've read that I have not enjoyed:
– Brideshead Revisited
– A Farewell to Arms
– Anna Karenina
– Les Miserables
– Lolita
– Wuthering Heights
– Mill on the Floss
I am really open to book suggestions based on things I've enjoyed, and others you think I might like.
