To preface this, I used to read a lot and then as I got older I really just stopped reading. No reason in particular, it just kind of happened where I realized I had barely read anything for the past couple years. That said, I’ve now finished 24 books this year (which seems like a ton to me, probably not as much to a lot of you) and am looking for some suggestions. My favorite books to read are mystery/thriller but I want to read books I might not otherwise look for. My favorite book I read this year was not in this category and I would love more recommendations.
My top 5 so far this year I’ve read:
- Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
- Razorblade Tears by SA Cosby
- The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger
- Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane
- The Only One Left by Riley Sager
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Even better if they are not mystery/thriller so I can branch out!

The Stupidest Angel is about gossipy zombies
If you’re interested in nonfiction, maybe Unmask Alice: LSD, the Satanic Panic, and the Imposter Behind the World’s Most Notorious Diaries by Rick Emerson, about the origins of the book Go Ask Alice by Anonymous.
Mostly recommending because I’ve not gotten the chance to do so lately, but I quite enjoyed both the book and audio versions.
