It was about a girl who somehow got into a time machine, but something went wrong and she ended up in a parallel universe. She tried to get back over the span of many books. I think she also had some sort of device that pointed her in the right direction to get back, but I could be wrong.I also remember the covers always being full of fog and creatures of some sort. I don't remember the details, just some chopped up segments of the story and I'm not even sure if I just mixed them up with other books from my memory, it was a long time ago. Does anyone know which book I am thinking of? I think I only listened to the audiobooks.
