My father passed away almost 3 weeks ago. I find myself scrolling and scrolling on my phone and I want to read but nothing I have sounds good right now.

I considered reading some non fiction grief books, but I go to therapy already and I prefer fiction anyway!

What books have helped you get through grief? Why did you feel that way? Subject matter doesn’t have to be related to death at all, I’m open to anything! Thanks in advance.

    1. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I had just started reading it when my mother died suddenly and continuing it brought me comfort during those early days. The main character is grieving the disappearance and presumed death of her only child, so there’s a narrative connection to death and grief.

    2. sorry for your loss 🙁 ❤️‍🩹

Please, please try “Pure Colour” by Sheila Heti. It’s so, so beautiful and poignant. It has some magical realism which I think goes hand in hand with the surreal experience of grief
