This extraordinary and surprising book, from an author known mainly for pulp horror, is a delightful tale of a boy and his friends in small town in 1960's Alabama. It is magical and moving, suspenseful and beautiful, a story of darkness and light, friendship and family, and growing up. Occasionally meandering but never dull, it nods to Ray Bradbury, leaving the reader glad to have been along on the journey.

My teacher in grade 7 loaned me the book and it was a fascinating tale. Many different parts and it all comes together.
