I’m looking for a book or series to read with my 11 year old son. I’m really trying to get him interested in reading. I want him to be immersed in a world and WANT to read.
We will read it together. We’ve read Geronimo Stilton and a few books he’s brought home from school. He thinks they’re alright but he only reads because it’s part of our bedtime routine.
Please give me some suggestions!

Try [The City of Ember](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/307791.The_City_of_Ember) series by Jeanne DuPrau
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy …?
My cousin wasn’t a big reader until he started the [Redwall](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7996.Redwall) books by Brian Jacques around the age of 12. Never read them myself though.
John Flanagan,
Sir Terry Pratchetts Discworld, the Tiffany Aching subseries were my personal starting off point but all that i’ve read/listened to so far are incredible.
I remember really enjoying the Darren Shan and Cherub series when i was about 11.
Anything written or published by Rick Riordan.
The Chronicles Of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Wildwood Trilogy by Carson Ellis
Ranger’s Apprentice Series by John Flanagan
The City of Ember Series by Jeanne DuPrau
The Oregon Trail Choose Your Own Adventure books by Jesse Wiley
Try The Hobbit, read it at 11 and loved it. My mistake was thinking Lord Of The Rings was a longer version of The Hobbit and reading that at 12.
If he enjoys The Hobbit, there are other fantasy series that are of a similar level in terms of reading difficulty. The Belgariad is an old series by David Eddings, but was a good 5 book series I loved at that age.
Or try different genres and themes to see what sticks for him. For sci-fi maybe try “Ender’s Game”, the main character is a kid and it’s an action book. There are some adult themes around war, but it’s another one I enjoyed at a young age.
The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy by Will Wight. Magic is used by calling energy and creatures from other worlds called territories. People who can draw from their territories are called travelers. The first book in the series is House of Blades.
The Thief of Always by Clive Barker was one of my favorite books as a kid. My dad read it to me when I was a little younger than 11.
Edit: Oh, you said series. Clive Barker has a YA series called Abarat too. It’s still currently unfinished at book 3 rn.
Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins is a great series for that age that I enjoyed as a parent as well.
A Series of Unfortunate Events,
Wings of Fire,
Nevermoor,
Redwall,
The Bad Guys,
Greenglass House,
The one and only Ivan
The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
I started reading Harry Potter with my son at that age. He got so into it he would read ahead on his own if I didn’t have time. By the third book he was reading it totally on his own.
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
