Hi everyone! I have been searching for new books to read but I’m having trouble finding exactly what I want (and leaving out what I DON’T want)

What I’m looking for is something creepy, occult, witchy, psychological thriller, prefer female main character, some romance thrown in.

I do NOT want anything including werewolves and vampires 🙄. If I see one more book about mates and alphas I might scream. I can’t seem to find any decent supernatural fantasy/romance novels that are not about werewolves and vampires!

When I was younger I loved the Harry Potter books, a Series of Unfortunate Events, a Great and Terrible Beauty trilogy, House of Night Series…pretty much all your typical young adult fantasy books. As an adult though, I am looking for something darker! The Great and Terrible Beauty trilogy is probably the closest to what I’d like to find now, but darker and more “adult”.

I recently read Slewfoot by Brom and was blown away. I loved everything about it! I loved the female rage, loved the puritan setting, the atmospheric writing, the duality of “Samson” and his inner struggles. I would love to find something just like it but with more romance possibly. Bonus points if I can get it on audible!

I’ll mention this last because it isn’t a book, but I have also really enjoyed a couple fiction podcasts, one called the Harrowing, another named uncanny valley. There are many more but I can’t remember the names. One was about a family that lost their twins in an accident, made a deal with a satanic cult and ended up having another set of twins who were then possessed by the dead twins and started turning evil and growing a second skeleton inside their bodies and the satanic cult needed them for some kind of ritual (weird I know, but it was a good story, I just can’t explain it well lol)
