I’ve been eyeing this book for years and picked it up on a trip to the library. I fully expected to love it. (Note: There will be no spoilers in this review, as I only want to discuss one issue.)

What I did not expect was to be shocked by what I found.

I could certainly do long, drawn-out paragraphs, but jumping from present tense to past tense in the same chapter, jumping from third person to first to second, no quotation marks when someone is speaking….? This was every page.

I would have thought this was a translation error but looking at other reviews, this seems to be the author’s style – correct me if that is wrong, please.

For me, this was a huge distraction, and I could not get past it. I don’t quite understand why this is acceptable in a published book. This ruined the book for me.

Other readers, I am aware this is a massively popular book, and many enjoyed it. If you liked it, did you notice these things and look past them? Did it not bother you at all? Are there other well-known authors who include these kinds of errors in their published work?

      Yeah, I think there are.
