I’m about 3/4 through the book, so no spoilers please. I just need a lil rant and see what other people think (without giving anything away).
I feel like Thomas Hardy is making a comment on the misogyny of the time (a lot of which unfortunately still happens today), but every time I think someone is going to take a feminist stance and stand by Tess or something good happen to Tess it doesn’t happen and the inequality gets reinforced. It’s starting to bum me out and I hope things change for her!
I am enjoying the book, but it’s also taking me a long time to read so I kind of feel like I’m never going to get out of this funk that poor Tess is in.
Ok, rant over. Back I go.
