The book I am currently reading is 暗殺 by 柴田哲孝 (FYI, there's no English translation for this book.)
- Publisher: Gentosha
- Language: Japanese
- Hardcover, 384 pages
- Genre: Mystery / Suspense
Note: most Japanese books are read from right to left with vertical text. It's one of the bestselling titles in Japan. I'll summarize what the book is about (which is reminiscent of the assassination of Shinzo Abe back in 2022) the setting takes place in Nara (the age of the culprit is also the same as the real perpetrator, the politician's name is fictionalized), but it is still a work of fiction.
The plot revolves around the assassination of a ex-prime minister of Japan in Nara, in which results on a 41 year old male being aprehended on the spot, as he shot the PM using a makeshift firearm, he claimed that the motive for his crime is about the PM having affiliation with a religious cult.
The assassination of the PM, in which he served the longest tenure is considered an unprecedented act of violence. However there's pieces of evidence that the authorities overlooked, such as the bullet that was never found, the gunshot wound is fired from the opposite direction where the suspect opened fire towards the PM.
The authorities did not get word regarding this crucial pieces of evidence that would've aided them in their investigation, as they've only returned to the crime scene 5 days after the shooting happened. There's a looming question: What are the police hiding? Who is the real perpetrator behind the assassination?
