Hi everyone! I'm a high school English teacher and had a 12th grade boy ask me today if I knew any good books about the mafia. I know our school library has copies of the Godfather that I could check out for him, and I have a copy of the Maltese Falcon in my class library that I told him to look at–but aside from those I'm stumped. I haven't read the Godfather, but I've seen the film and I'm assuming the novel that inspired it is great–I really have no idea if it will hook a high schooler though.
I've been racking my brain for any other fun crime/thriller books for him and the only thing I can think of that I've personally read are Snow Crash or Six of Crows. I lent Six of Crows to another student, but do you guys think young guys would like that book too? I'd be willing to buy a copy of Snow Crash for the class library if you all think a teen might like it. I'd be open to anything nonfiction too if someone has a good recommendation. I do need to keep the books school appropriate-ish, mostly because I really wouldn't be comfortable lending out books with graphic sex scenes to my students who are primarily minors.
