Is there a book anyone can recommend to me that will give me a winner’s mindset? I’m tired of always giving up when shit gets hard. I want to stop quitting things at the first sight of a massive obstacle. I would also like a book that can help me become more assertive and take charge of situations. Lastly a book that can help me be more confident and stop overthinking so much. If there’s anyone can give me any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it

None of those things can be done by flipping a switch or simply reading a book. I would suggest looking into Stoic philosophy, but stay away from reading about it on reddit or Instagram or any other social media. It takes discipline to make meaningful changes in your life, and to change the way you look at the world. I’d start by reading “A field guide to a happy life” by Massimo Pigliucci, who is a professor of philosophy. “How to think like a Roman Emperor” by Donald Robertson is another good one. You can also read the works from the ancient Stoics themselves, such as “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus’s “Discourses”, and Seneca’s “Letters from a Stoic”.

At its simplest, Stoicism is understanding the dichotomy of control. Concern yourself with the things within your control (your emotions, your perceptions, your judgments, your decisions) and realize that anything outside of your control (people’s opinions, your job, your health, etc) are indifferent to how you act, behave, and think. But mostly it’s a philosophy of practical action, not just learning. That’s where the discipline comes in.

Maybe not what you were hoping to hear, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

    2. *Private Owens: A George Owens Novel* is about a boy who undergoes that exact transformation.

Can’t hurt me by goggins. He talks about one day being sick of being fat so he starts walking then running. He keeps getting hurt but he keeps going. Now his socials are full of crap but he used to be more down to earth and level headed. But this book is good for motivation to keep going.

The courage to be disliked might be a good one for assertiveness.

The obstacle is the way by Ryan holiday. A bunch of stoic stories that might help you not give up.

Brene brown has a few good books to look into. Atomic habits is a good book.

And try to journal. Write stuff down. It doesn’t have to be a fancy journal, just a notebook. Write it down. Whatever you’re thinking about. Another stoic exercise is thinking about situations and how to react to them better. You could do that in your journal. It could be anything from “I wish I said this during that conversation” to what you’d do in high stress situations.

    4. 1. “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey – A classic self-help book that helps you develop a winner’s mindset and habits.

      2. “The Assertiveness Workbook” by Randy J. Paterson – A practical guide to help you develop assertiveness skills.

      3. “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle – Teaches you how to live in the present and reduce overthinking.
