I dislike fiction books. This summer I tried to read, or rather failed to read, something like 40+ books, (meaning looking up book titles, reading their descriptions, then reading a couple pages). Though there are more than that which I've looked at but chose not to go any deeper.
The reasons that dissuade me in order from most to least are 1. Subject of the book (the plots and themes) 2. Word choice and authorial decisions (how they choose to write something, what they choose to focus on in the scene).
Now I understand that books aren't supposed to appeal to me specifically, but I seem to just not be the target audience for any book at all.
You're probably wondering what my interests are for a fiction book then.
I like the idea of non-genre specific literature. The perfect book for me would have many particular aspects of many specific genres like fantasy, mystery, historical fiction, scifi. For example, I really want to read a book dealing with computers. Not a dystopian scifi book about computers, not even a scifi book about computers. I want to read a book which takes place now or a little in the past, which tells a fictitious story dealing with parts of computers. Not a thriller or a heist story about a hacker, moreso slice of life, or that deals with themes like human connection or aspects of what computers can do in a more positive light.
Sorry for the long-windedness.
TLDR: I am very picky such that "normal fiction" doesn't interest me at all. I want a book that deals with themes first, then builds a story and setting around them that aren't a particular genre.
Thank you.
