Hey y’all! I’m assuming that y’all might have seen the “80’s dark fantasy” trend that’s been going around recently; well I am OBSESSED with that aesthetic and would love to have some recs based on that! I know I wrote “fantasy” in the title, but that’s mainly because that’s the trend that’s been going around—it can be fantasy, sci-fi, horror, etc! Thank you all in advance 🙂

The Black Company is the obvious answer. It was originally published in 1984 and is credited for being (one of) the first in the grimdark fantasy genre.
>Some feel the Lady, newly risen from centuries in thrall, stands between humankind and evil. Some feel she is evil itself. The hard-bitten men of the Black Company take their pay and do what they must, burying their doubts with their dead. Until the prophesy: The White Rose has been reborn, somewhere, to embody good once more. There must be a way for the Black Company to find her… So begins one of the greatest fantasy epics of our age—Glen Cook’s Chronicles of the Black Company.
