Please offer suggestions for something fictional, creepy or haunted or uneasy in tone. A good stand alone book, rather than a series starter. I don't want anything gory or too violent. No Stephen King or Neil Gaiman, I think I've read them all! Thanks for you help.

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer is unsettling. There’s a little violence, but not a lot, and it doesn’t come off as gratuitous. It is integral to the plot. It’s more just a completely creepy atmosphere throughout the story. The violence that happened was not what unsettled me about the book.
