I loved the books World War Z and One Second After and movies like Dawn of the Dead, The Crazies, and Contagion. I especially love how these show the events unfolding from normal life to soon (after) the apocalypse. It could be realistic like nuclear war or disease or it can be fantasy like zombies or vampires etc. Bonus if it has a good Audible production. I’ll be listening to this during a road trip I’m currently on.

The Stand
On the Beach and Severance are good
Slow burn – more leaning towards TWD after the first book, but it’s on Audible (also a good deal, at least when I bought it).
Swam song takes place after a nuclear war.
In the apocalypse?
Flood by Stephen Baxter
The Forge of God by Greg Bear
Moonfall by Jack McDevitt
Upon reflection, I’m not sure any of these have audible versions. Here are some that include some after the apocalypse too.
Alas Babylon by Pat Frank
Dies the Fire and its two sequels by SM Stirling. The books after that take a time jump and get more mystical.
Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle
The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson
