Looking for recommendations for an audiobook to listen to with my partner (the roadtrip is about 12 hrs long, but happy to continue listening to the audiobook after it's over).

I'm a big reader that's happy with almost anything outside of horror. My partner doesn't read much. He's got an engineering mind and likes books that make logical sense. Successful roadtrip audiobooks for us have been:

    • Anything Andy Weir! These are our ideal audiobooks to listen to together and we've listened to them all! My partner loves the hard science, but the characters and the dialog are also great fits for both of us. The Martian and Project Hail Mary are our obvious favorites.
    • Good Omens – Not quite as hard science-y but the self-aware nature, the witty dialog and the silly British humor is a sci-fi-ish setting was a big hit with us both.
    • Hitchhiker's Guide Series – Definitely not hard science, but swings so aggressively in the other direction and has such delightful characters and dialogue that he doesn't seem to mind.

Other media we both enjoy together (if that's useful) include Taskmaster (again, we enjoy smart British humor), Christopher Nolan mind bending movies and a good heist film.

Currently throwing around James S.A. Corey, Michael Crichton and Blake Crouch. Neither of us have read anything by those authors. A little scared of diving into James S.A. Corey over audiobook but it always comes up as a rec. Those books do feel a bit like they're missing the witty humor (which isn't absolutely necessary, but is something that we've enjoyed in the past).

Blake Crouch is a great choice! Recursion is incredible.

I’d suggest some funny non fiction. Will I Ever Have Sex Again? by Sofie Hagen is so funny and so interesting. I’ve not read/listened to Happy Fat, but I’m told it’s great as well. Bill Bryson’s travel books are so funny as well. The Guilty Feminist by Deborah Frances-White is very funny but does have a more serious tone overall.

My husband and I have really enjoyed Asimov’s Foundation series on some recent road trips. It’s broken up nicely in segments for rest stops.
