I am currently trying to read Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis. It has amazing reviews and is one of 'the' novels about Greece, but I'm honestly just finding it horrifically, disgustingly sexist.
I've read plenty of pre-20th century novels, I'm no stranger to books written by authors with extremely dated ideas about race or gender, but this is really taking it to an extreme. Every few pages it hammers on about how women are weak, disgusting and inhuman. Yawn. Am I wasting my time with this book? I'm about a third of the way through and thinking of giving up (which I almost NEVER do).
