Feeling pretty homesick and dealing with immigration struggles so I’d like to read something that I can relate to. Would also be cool if it was translated literature. It could also be about long-term travel or temporary immigration, even exchange programs.

Looking for the experience of giving up your past life, making hard sacrifices, being separated from loved ones, the feeling of not belonging yet being desperate to stay & make it work, and all of the struggles that come with trying to integrate into a new language, culture, and society. Bonus points if it discusses uncertainty about visas or the future 😭

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver is about an American missionary family that moves to Africa. Its a very interesting story, there is definitely struggle adjusting to their new lives.

    2. River East, River West by Aube Rey Lescure

      Arsonists’ City by Hala Alyan

Both are beautiful, layered stories about immigration and emigration.
